Humanities Gateway was one of many Design Build Competitions for the University. The Design Build team’s goal was to give the campus a unique structure that will be recognizes as the signature gateway to the School of Humanities.
Interior spaces capture natural light through the full height exterior glazing and the interior light wells. Exterior walls are open to extend interior spaces, creating a strong connectivity between the outside and inside.
To accomplish the simplicity of this design, the Crosby Group incorporated exposed concrete floors, stairwells and walls. Careful attention was given to every detail to ensure the concrete could be placed easily and with a high assurance of quality control.
With its exposed colored concrete exterior this building will soon be an icon of UC Irvine.
