Federal : NPS Presidio Barracks Seismic Strengthening
|
|
Crosby Group performed a seismic evaluation and ultimately developed a strengthening scheme
in accordance with the State Historical Building Code and Chapter A3 of the 2003 IEBC for this building consisting of timber
roofs and floor system and unreinforced masonry bearing walls. Originally constructed in the 1890’s as Barracks for army
personnel stationed in the Presidio, the building has suffered the effects of ensuing major Bay Area earthquakes and was unoccupied.
The proposed upgrade consisted of the addition of shotcrete and glass fiber reinforced polymer composites at the interior of the perimeter URM walls,
roof and floor diaphragm anchorage; and some limited beam and collector strengthening. With these internal restorations, the historical building’s
appearance would be maintained along with its structural integrity.
