Community/Recreation Centers : Palm Springs Convention
Center Expansion |
 |
 |
 |
For the expansion of the Palm Springs
Convention Center, we creatively transformed a primary existing steel
moment frame into a free-spanning truss. This ensured the owner could
expand the exhibit hall spaces to the East and add gathering spaces towards
the Western mountain views while never losing the use of the existing
exhibit hall. The Western entrance then became a dramatic pre-function
area defined by stone pylons towering 50 feet tall supporting a sweeping
curvilinear roof structure. This will increase meeting room space by
50,000s.f and exhibit space to 100,000 s.f. New facilities to be added
include a warehouse, maintenance shops, a security command post, and
additional parking. Our solution was in contrast to the original structural
design, yet supported the design evolution and maintained the building's
daily operations.
