Community/Recreation Centers : Palm Springs Convention
Center Expansion & Addition |
The Palm Springs Convention Center Expansion involved the addition of nearly 100,000sf to the existing facility as well as creating a new iconic landmark structure for the City of Palm Springs. This involved the expansion of the exhibit hall towards the dynamic views of the adjacent mountains. The western entrance then became a dramatic pre-function area defined by stone pylons towering 50 feet tall supporting a sweeping curvilinear roof structure.
Crosby Group developed a creative design that cut away the existing end bay moment frame and replaced it with a braced truss system that permitted the proposed expansion to be constructed while maintaining full use of the facility. In addition, the sloping roofs of the entrance structure and the stone-clad pylons were carefully detailed to permit the attainment of the architectural vision. Crosby Group worked closely with the design team to develop a series of solutions that allowed the existing convention center to stay operational during the expansion construction.
